The average home has a 100 Amp service and will support a standard number of appliances. How ever with the amount of luxury items coming out, i.e hot tubs, pools, electronics, it may be necessary to upgrade the service to 125 Amp, 150 Amp, or even 200 Amp.

If you have a fuse panel, then you may want to consider getting a breaker panel.

                                                                                        Why you ask?

1. You get a much better connection with a breaker then a fuse, and will eliminate the burnt up fuse holder.

2. You will have more expansion for capacity for present and future circuits.

3. Much more user friendly.

4. A lot easier to reset a breaker then to replace a fuse, because there is a clear indication as to which breaker is tripped when a circuit is overloaded, as appose to looking for a blown fuse when you can't even distinguish which fuse is blown.

5. Can't as easily insert an oversized device with breaker panel as you can with a fuse panel.
i.e with a fuse panel it's common for someone to mistake a 15AMP fuse, and replace it with an over sized 30AMP fuse. With a breaker panel you can't make that mistake, you'd have to get an electrician with tools if you wanted to upgrade the breaker amperage.
