Ground Fault Protection

This is a safety device built into a receptacle or a breaker.
The main function of a GFCI is to guard against electrocution by closely monitoring the flow of electricity within a circuit. A GFCI knows if any current is going astray from the circuit, thus disconnecting the power immediately. These GFCI devices are a mandatory requirement by code for all receptacles in bathrooms and exterior.
There are other code requirements for GFCI's with respect to pools, spas and hot tubs.
